Through 575 Fifth Ave, FAC and AGA sought to redefine that LEED rating would be expensive. Planning early for high energy efficiency enables cost savings. Meetings with the general contractor, architect, engineer, green consultant, and property management team were specific and extensive, discussing green materials, best pricing, environmental benefits and maintenance efficiency. To help achieve LEED Gold certification, the development team identified credits that were affordable to meet LEED and budget goals, for example in transit access, building orientation, and tenant environmental education.

High use of building materials that are recycled and renewable, locally-produced, and low/non-toxic was emphasized, including recycled and locally manufactured cabinets. FAC’s workforce training program in skilled woodworking provided the cabinet work including cabinets, counters, and storage units in fabricated bamboo. The building will also feature high efficiency centralized, gas-powered HVAC, low-flush and flow fixtures, and lush Brooklyn native and drought-tolerant landscaping incorporated both on the roof and back yard. In addition, 575 Fifth Ave also participated in NYSERDA Multi Family Performance Program in cooperation with Energy Star to maximize the building’s energy efficiency.
